Shop Disney Japan Story Collection
I find myself asking “Why does Japan always get all the good stuff?” and while I don’t know the answer, I do know that some of the items are worth hunting for. The Story Collection from the Shop Disney Japan website is one of my favourite collectible lines that I randomly came across one day. They have many pieces from Disney Classic movies such as Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Lady and the Tramp and much more. My Wishlist from this collection is quite extensive and keeps growing as they release new items and while some of them are being sold for prices that I would never consider paying, others are much more affordable. They have released a number of different types of items such as figurines, trinket trays, mirrors, clocks, lamps, snow globes and more.
All of the pieces I have purchased are made from a stone resin and are breakable. I have not been disappointed with any of the pieces I have added to my collection; however be sure to do your research on the dimensions of the pieces as they are not all large items. I have noticed that many of these pieces are reimagined concepts that another collectible line/company has already produced. Such as the Cinderella bust figurine, this idea was already done by a few companies and the Walt Disney Classic Collection (WDCC) had released this item many years ago and the value of that piece is well over $1,000. So, I really do appreciate this line as it allows collectors to add similar items to their collection without breaking the bank.
I would have to say that my number one favourite piece I have in my collection from this line is the pink Cinderella gown figurine that was released earlier this year. The details on this piece are so amazing and the colouring of it is beautiful. They released Belle’s yellow gown not too long after and I added that one to my collection as well. I am hoping that they continue to release these figurines in the future as I would absolutely love to see Tiana’s green dress and Aurora’s blue dress done in the same way.
Although I am pretty disappointed that the original Shop Disney website does not carry this line, I have been able to find most of the items I like through eBay. While most of the sellers on eBay are trying to flip the items for much more than the regular retail price of the items, you can find some of items for reasonable prices. Like any other collectible, you really need to ask yourself, what would you pay for the item? I might think that $100 for a certain item is very reasonable because I think it is amazing and you do not and vice versa. You could always use a third party website to purchase the items for you and then ship them to your home, such as White Rabbit, but I personally have not tried this myself and I do not know if the pricing would be worth it or not.
