Alice in Wonderland 70th Anniversary Funko Pops- Review

If you are an impatient collector like me, you know how long it took this release to finally be available. I pre-ordered this new wave of Funko Pops back in January just after Christmas. My pre-order for these Pops finally came in a few weeks ago. While the wait was long, it was definitely worth it. The entire set is colourful, highly detailed and absolutely gorgeous. I did not opt to purchase every single one from this set as I already owned some of the characters from previous releases. I was super happy to see that Funko decided to release characters that we did not already have such as White Rabbit, the Tweedles, March Hare, Caterpillar and the Walrus.

My absolute favourite Pop from this set is hands down the White Rabbit. I think they did an amazing job on the mold for this Pop and they captured his character beautifully. His colours and details are simply amazing, and I really adore the way they made his glasses and pocket watch so perfectly. Another one of my favourites from this set is the Tweedles 2-pack. As a Disney collector, I have found if very difficult to find merchandise for these characters, so I was happy to see that they were included with this release. In the future, I would love to see the Baby Oysters made into a Pop, I think they would look super cute. I also think a movie moment with Alice on a mushroom would look really good as well.

The Pops from this wave I decided to not purchase were the Mad Hatter, Alice (curtsying), Cheshire Cat and Alice falling. It wasn’t because I didn’t like the look of these Pops, but rather that I just liked the Pops of these characters I already had in my collection more than these ones. I decided that the Alice Pop I wanted the most from this set was the Alice with flowers. I thought that this Pop was much different than the other variants from this set. The reason I opted to not purchase the Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat was because I already have the Mad Hatter in teacup and the Hot Topic exclusive Cheshire Cat. I did purchase the new Queen of Hearts even though I prefer the older mold better just because the King of hearts came with her. The facial expression on the original Queen of Hearts Pop was truer to character and I love that she had her flamingo croquet stick. I would still love to be able to add the new 10” Cheshire Cat to my collection once the hype dies down a little bit and I can find it for a reasonable price on eBay.

My overall opinion on this set is that it is simply amazing. While collectors were left waiting and waiting for it finally hit stores I do believe that it was well worth the wait. Funko has also released a few of the characters in an exclusive black light variant set which is also amazing but seems to be going for a pretty penny now. Most of this set were common releases available at various retailers and the Caterpillar and Walrus were Comic Con exclusives that you may need to go to the secondary market to be able to purchase at this point.
