Jim Shore – “A Rare Rose” Review
You may have heard that Jim Shore announced that he will be releasing an “Enchanted Princess” series of Disney Princess that will consist of 12-14 figurines in total. In September 2021, Belle was the first of the series to be released. Of course, with Belle being my all-time favourite Princess, I added her to my collection. Ariel will be the next one to release early this year and Tiana and Snow White will be the next ones to release. While I do not know all of the 12-14 Princesses he intends on releasing, I am assuming that Aurora, Jasmine, and Cinderella will also be part of this collection.
For this piece, Jim chose to do Belle in her traditional yellow ball gown but gave her some beautiful embellishments of crystals and pearls. Belle’s bodice is stripped and then moves into the skirt where you can see two of Jim’s classic patterns, scrolls and quilting. The lace detailing along the bottom of her skirt is also beautiful. Belle has her hands out and is holding the enchanted rose under the glass dome which is made out of a clear resin. This is such a beautiful detail that makes this piece different than other Belle pieces we have seen in the past. Her face was very well executed, and her expression is perfect.
When I first opened the box, I was shocked by just how large this piece was. Saying that these pieces are going to be “centerpieces” for a collection is an understatement. Belle measures 15” tall and is so large at the base, that she does not fit onto a shelf in my cabinets. When I first received her, my initial thought was that there was absolutely no way that I was going to have space for all 7 Princesses I planned on adding to my collections from this series. Fortunately, I figured out that she does sit nicely on top of my cabinets, and the other Princesses will also go there as they release.
I was able to order Belle from Sideshow Collectibles when she first released for $150 USD, I have noticed that the price of Ariel is slightly more at $175 USD. I have to say that even though the price tag for these pieces is higher than some others I have in my collection, Belle was worth every penny. This piece currently has a 4.9 out of 5 star rating on Amazon and I would definitely give it 5/5 myself. One of the common themes among the buyers is that they were not expecting her to be as large as she was, which isn’t a bad thing as long as you have the space for her.
